Equipment

  • airtight container
  • marker or pen
  • freezer bags

Ingredients

  • Applesauce

Instructions

  • If you have made homemade applesauce, allow it sufficient time to cool before starting this process.
  • Portion out the applesauce in portion sizes you will be using when you thaw it.
  • Grab an airtight container or a freezer bag and spoon your portioned applesauce into it.
  • Place the lid on the container. Or, if using a freezer bag, squeeze any air out of the bag and then zip it shut.
  • Use a pen or a marker and write the date on the bag or the container.
  • Toss it into the freezer.

Notes

Keep it fresh:  freeze it as fresh as possible so that it is at maximum quality.  This will help it to have the best taste and texture when defrosted.
Leave room:  the applesauce will expand slightly when frozen due to the water content.  Leave an inch or two between the applesauce and the container lid or the top of the freezer bag.
Size it right:  if using an airtight container, while you want a few inches of head room for expansion, make sure not to leave a ton of extra space in the container or this extra air can lead to quicker freezer burn.
