Equipment

  • airtight container
  • marker or pen
  • freezer bags
  • plastic wrap
  • Kitchen Scissors

Ingredients

  • Cream Cheese Frosting homemade or store-bought

Instructions

Individually Wrapped

  • If you want to place several portions together in one container or freezer bag, it is best to individually wrap them. You can use this method for homemade or store-bought cream cheese frosting.
  • Decide what sized portions you will need when it is thawed and divide the frosting up into those sized amounts.
  • Tear off a sheet of plastic wrap big enough to completely cover one portion and lay it flat on the counter
  • Place your portion of frosting in the middle of the plastic wrap and secure it around the frosting so it is totally enclosed.
You can twist each end of plastic wrap to help seal it off and hold it together.
  • Repeat this for each portion.
  • Place your wrapped portions of frosting into a freezer bag or airtight container.
  • Seal it up by pressing any air out of the bag and zipping it closed. If you used a container, simply secure the lid on top of it.
  • Write the date on it and toss it into the freezer.

In Freezer bag or Airtight Container

  • This method can also be used for store-bought or homemade.
  • Portion your frosting into the amounts you will need when it is thawed.
  • Then, scoop it into a freezer bag or an airtight container.
  • Put the lid on the container. Or, press all of the air from the bag and zip it shut.
  • If using a freezer bag, then press the frosting flat so that bag is easy to store in the freezer.
  • Use a marker and put the date on the bag or container and put it into the freezer.

In store-bought container

  • This is the fastest way, but not best way to freeze your frosting.
  • If the container is unopened you can toss it straight into the freezer.
  • If the container is opened or you want it to have a little extra protection, stick it into a freezer bag then toss it into the freezer.

Notes

Portion it:  make sure to portion it out before you wrap or package it.  This way you will only have to defrost the amount you need each time.
Keep air out: the less air contact it has, the longer the quality will hold up in the freezer.  If you are using a container, try to make sure it only has an inch or two between the frosting and lid to minimize air.  If you are using a freezer bag, squeeze any air from the bag before closing it.
Freshness:  it is best to freeze it when it is at maximum freshness that way the taste, texture and overall quality will be the best possible at defrosting.
