Equipment

  • airtight container
  • marker or pen
  • freezer bags
  • plastic wrap
  • aluminum foil
  • Ice Cube Tray
  • cookie sheet

Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter homemade or store-bought

Instructions

Store-bought Container

  • If the store-bought container is not glass, you can freeze it in the unopened container. Though this is not the best method, it works when short on time.
  • Simply toss the unopened container into the freezer. If you want more protection, toss it into a freezer bag first.

In Freezer bag or Airtight container

  • Portion out how much you will want when it is defrosted.
  • Spoon the portions into individual freezer bags or airtight containers.
note: if using a container, try to make it sized so there is only 1 - 2 inches of space between the peanut butter and the lid to reduce exposure to air.
  • Seal it up:
bags: squeeze out all the air and then zip the bag closed.
container: snap the lid on top of the container
  • Label the outside of the container or bag with the date and place it into the freezer.

in an ice cube tray

  • Spoon the peanut butter into the compartments of an ice cube tray.
  • Pop the tray into the freezer and leave it for a few hours until the peanut butter is solid.
  • Remove from the freezer and pop the frozen cubes out.
  • Toss the frozen cubes into an airtight container or freezer bag.
  • Zip the bag shut after pressing any air out of it. Or, pop the lid on top of the container.
  • Write the date on the package and toss it in the freezer.

In other foods (pie, cookie, sandwich etc)

  • Make your peanut butter based food: pie, cookie, sandwich. And, if warm, let it cool.
  • Flash freeze it by placing it in a single layer on a cookie sheet for a few hours.
  • Wrap it up in portions with sheets of plastic wrap. Make sure each portion is completely and securely wrapped.
  • Pop your wrapped portions into an airtight container or a freezer bag.
  • Seal it up by squeezing all the air out of the bag and zipping it closed. Or, by securing the lid on top of the container.
  • Label the package on the outside with the date and toss back into the freezer.

Notes

Portioned: decide how you will ultimately be using the peanut butter and portion it out in the amount you will need so you can defrost just what you need at a time.
No Air: the less air contact the better to maintain high quality.  So, make sure to squeeze all of the air out of the freezer bags.  Or, if using a container, make it a size that will only have 1 - 2 inches of space between the peanut butter and the lid.
Fresh: the fresher you freeze it, the better the quality will be when it is thawed.
