How to Freeze Bologna

Instructions

Whole Package

  • if you will use the whole package at once upon defrosting, you can freeze it all together.
  • Simply toss your unopened package into a freezer bag, press out any air, zip it shut and stick it in the freezer.
    note: if you want to provide extra protection, you can wrap the unopened package in a layer of plastic wrap or aluminum foil.

In Portions

  • Portion it out into the amount you will use each time you defrost it.
  • Tear off a sheet of plastic wrap large enough to fully cover the portion.
  • Place the plastic wrap flat on the counter with the portion in the center.
  • Completely wrap the portion up in the plastic wrap.
    note: for extra protection you can add a second layer of plastic wrap and/or aluminum foil if you wish. This is best if you will be freezing for an extended time.
  • Repeat the wrapping process for all portions.
  • Place your wrapped portions into a freezer bag or a freezer safe container.
  • Press all the air out of your bag and zip it shut. Or, secure the lid on top of your container.
  • Write the date on your package and stick it into the freezer.

Notes

Fresh:  the sooner you can package and freeze the bologna, the better.  This will ensure that is is frozen to hold in maximum taste, texture and quality.
Portion: it is best to wrap and package the bologna in the portion sizes that you will want to use when you defrost it.  This way you can just defrost the amount you need.
Wrap well: the better you wrap it, the longer it will maintain a high quality while frozen.
