Equipment

  • airtight container
  • marker or pen
  • freezer bags

Ingredients

  • Rotisserie Chicken Homemade or store-bought

Instructions

Whole Chicken

  • you can freeze the whole rotisserie chicken easily if you will want to use the whole thing once thawed.
  • Allow it to completely cool.
  • Place it into a freezer bag.
Note: if you want to freeze for an extended time, you can add a layer of plastic wrap and/or aluminum foil for extra protection.
  • Press all the air out of the bag and zip it closed.
  • Write the date on the bag and toss it in the freezer.

Shredded or Pieces

  • Allow your chicken to completely cool.
  • Decide what sized portions you will want. You can pull the chicken off the bone and shred it, or simply carve it so you have legs, wings etc with the bone still in.
  • If your portions are on the smaller side, wrap each portion in plastic wrap and/or aluminum foil. This way you can package several portions all in one container.
  • Pop your individually wrapped portions all into a freezer safe container or a freezer bag.
  • Secure the lid on your container. Or, zip your bag shut after you have squeezed any air out of it.
  • Use a marker to write the date on your package and then stick it in the freezer.

Notes

Cool Down: make sure that your chicken is totally cooled down before packaging it up. If it is still warm, condensation will build up in the package.  Additionally, placing warm food in the freezer can drive the overall temperature up and mess up your other foods.
Portion Right: determine the portions you will want to use when it is thawed.  This will allow you to package it in the right amounts so you can only defrost what you need.
Wrap it up: the better wrapped your food is, the longer your quality will remain high.  So, especially if you will leave it frozen for an extended time, make sure to wrap it well.
