Equipment

  • airtight container
  • marker or pen
  • freezer bags
  • plastic wrap
  • aluminum foil
  • wax paper or parchment paper

Ingredients

  • Salami whole or sliced

Instructions

Whole

  • You can freeze a whole package of salami unopened and unsliced if you will want to use the whole thing at thawing.
  • Simply take your unopened package, toss it into a freezer bag.
  • Press all the air out of the bag and zip it closed.
  • Put the date on the bag and toss it into the freezer.

Sliced or Individual Portions

  • Slice up your salami.
  • Determine desired portion size and divide the salami up.
  • optional: place wax or parchment paper between each slice of salami. This makes it easier to separate them upon thawing.
  • Tear off a sheet of plastic wrap or aluminum foil and wrap it around each portion of salami.
  • Repeat wrapping for all portions.
  • Toss your wrapped portions into a freezer bag or freezer safe container.
  • Press the lid onto your container. Or, press the air out of the bag and zip it shut.
  • Use a marker and write the date on your package, then stick it into the freezer.

Notes

Fresh is best: make sure to package and freeze it when it is as fresh as possible.  That will ensure that you seal in maximum quality.
Portioned out: decide what size portions you will want to use and package in that amount.  This will allow you to defrost only what you need each time.
Wrapped Tight: in order to prevent your salami from drying out and having negative texture changes while froze, make sure to wrap it well.  This will protect it from freezer burn.
